Highlights of Rhino Linux 2026.1 include a new edition featuring the Lomiri desktop environment developed by the UBports Foundation for the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system. Since Lomiri is a convergent graphical environment, it can be successfully used on standard x86_64 or ARM64 systems.
βWhile Lomiri support on generic systems is still considered an evolving experience, we are excited by the progress made so far and are excited to continue working closely with the UBports team to provide improvements for Lomiri users on desktop and mobile,β said the Rhino Linux team.
Rhino Linux 2026.1 also introduces significant updates to the Pacstall AUR-inspired package manager, which has been updated to the 6.4.x series, with new DNUM and CDNUM internal variables, new PACSTALL_XTRACEFD and PACSTALL_XTRACEFDLOG environment variables, and support for exporting KVER to pre/post scripts.
The Rhino Linux team released Rhino Linux 2026.1 today as the latest stable ISO snapshot of this Ubuntu-based distribution, offering a rolling-release model on top of the Xfce desktop environment.

The Lomiri desktop on Rhino Linux 2026.1
Under the hood, Rhino Linux 2026.1 is powered by Linux kernel 7.0.9 by default on generic 64-bit and AArch64 ISOs, Linux kernel 6.18.32 LTS on the PinePhone, PinePhone Pro, and PineTab images, Linux kernel 6.9 on the PineTab2 images, and Linux kernel 7.0 on the Raspberry Pi images.
Rhino Linux 2026.1 is now available for download from the official website as live and installable ISO images for x86_64 and ARM64 architectures. Just like with the previous releases, Rhino Linux is available for generic 64-bit and AArch64 machines, as well as PinePhone, PineTab, and Raspberry Pi devices.
Since Rhino Linux follows a rolling-release model, you donβt need to download the new ISO snapshot to update your installations. If you have a healthy Rhino Linux installation, all you have to do is run the sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade commands in your favorite terminal emulator or use the Pacstall package manager.
